Four years ago (24th October 2012 to be precise), we held our first prayer meeting in our new premises at Irwell Terrace in Bacup. It had been a journey of four years since we first received the vision for the Prayerhub, a journey that took us to Rossendale, a time of testing and learning, a time of getting to know people in Rossendale and a time of waiting and discerning. We knew that the Lord had prepared a place for us and we looked at a number of different possibilities. But none of them was the right place or the right time. In his time, God led us to the right place.
I well remember that first prayer meeting. We had sent out an email announcing the venue and time. By then, we had around a hundred people on our ‘Prayerhub’ contact list. But none of them turned up! The people who did come, we had never met before. They had heard about the meeting through one of our contacts. They came because they had been praying for years for God to set up a centre for prayer in Bacup, their home town. Hearing this was so humbling and made us realise how great are the plans of the Lord and how he brings his purposes into being. We knew we were part of something awesome.
Over the last four years, the Lord has brought others along to be part of the prayer ministry he has created. He has also created a unity among us that we have not experienced before. The ministry of the Prayerhub has also developed and increased as the Lord has led us to take ministry teams into a number of different situations, working alongside other Christians to bring the grace of God into peoples’ lives. People have also continued to come to the Prayerhub for ministry and prayer.
Now, he has taken us a stage further and we have now successfully registered as a charity with the Charities Commission.. We have been known previously as ‘Rossendale Prayerhub’, but we are now simply ‘Prayerhub’. This reflects the fact that our ministry is now reaching further into other parts of East Lancashire, and beyond.
We have so much to give thanks for. Many have been with us on this journey. I want to thank all those who have come alongside to share the vision for the prayer and ministry of the Prayerhub all the way through from before we had a meeting place. Thanks to Jan, my wife, who has travelled this sometimes difficult road with me, Thanks to the other members of our Core Team: Dave, Carole, Andrew and Pat who have supported us and prayed with us. Thanks to all those who have met with us in prayer. Thanks to Roger our landlord who made the rooms available, to Richard who has helped us with the website and all those who have given us material and financial support. But, above all, we give our thanks to God who has graciously involved us in the work of his kingdom and who is the source of everything.
When we meet on Tuesday 25th, we are going to have a time of celebration and thanksgiving, a time when we can share our stories of how the Lord brought each of us into this ministry that he has created. But we are also looking forward into the future to what he has in store for us all.
...as it is written:
“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him—
1 Corinthians 2 v 9
We wait with eager expectation to see what God will reveal by his Spirit.
