Just a couple of weeks ago, the Lord spoke to us about circumcision of the heart. He showed us that he wants to work in our hearts to separate from us the desires that take us away from him so that he can draw us closer to himself. This is a work of the Holy Spirit (Romans 2:29) and not something we can achieve ourselves. It is about his holiness, not ours.
In Joshua 5: 1-9, after the miraculous crossing of the River Jordan, God instructed that the men of the generation who had come through the wilderness had to be circumcised. When this was done, the Lord rolled away the reproach of the past from that generation and so they called the place Gilgal. Now, all their shame, all their reproach, was removed and they were ready to move on to the new things of God. They were no longer people of the wilderness, but people of the Promise. Their obedience showed that they wanted to be ‘divorced’ from all influences that could hinder the work of God in their nation. Now they were ready to fully enter the Promised Land, the land that God had promised by covenant to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would be for their descendants.
We believe we are like a generation that has come through the wilderness. There has been a deep longing for something better, the hope expressed in the Scriptures, the kind of church that shines with the holiness, beauty and power of our Lord Jesus.
Now, we are coming into a time of Jubilee. Now, the Lord wants to roll back the reproach of the past and fill us with his confidence, restoring our faith, our hope and our love.
Once they had obeyed the call to be circumcised, the Israelites were ready to move in a new way. The battle for the capture of Jericho was fought in a new way, for the battle is the Lord’s and he is doing a new thing.
We ask you to take time to seek out the Lord’s will for you in this time. Invite him, by his Spirit, to work in your heart, separate out the things that hinder, roll away the reproach of the past and come closer to his heart and see him face to face.
"The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace."'
PRAYER FOR OUR NATION
God has been laying on our hearts that we should pray for the leaders of our nation. We felt that he was saying “If you don’t pray for godly government, you will get ungodly government. We have taken this to heart at the Prayerhub. A prayer that we use as a base for our praying is the one that follows:
Lord, as scripture commands us*, we give our respect to the rulers and authorities that you have set over us. We pray for all government and authority, whether it be national, local or over any of our institutions.
We pray for government and leaders who will respect and honour your Law in word and deed and without double standards, and pray that they may seek to honour your Name and administer justice and governance in ways that lead people to you. We pray that through them, your will is done on earth as it is in heaven.
*Romans 13:1-7 & 1 Timothy 2:1-4
You may wish to use this prayer too. It is significant that the first party to elect a new leader after the general election, the Liberal Democrats, have elected a committed Christian, Tim Farron. Whatever are your politics, please pray for this man and his family. We ask you to pray that the Lord strengthens and prospers him in godly activity as party leader, and brings him honour. Please also pray that he and his family are protected. There are political and media forces already trying to bring him down and ridicule him. Your prayers are a powerful force against this. They are a weapon of righteousness.
AT THE PRAYERHUB
Throughout August, we are taking a break from the regular daytime opening on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. However, we will continue to meet for prayer on Tuesday evenings 7pm and Wednesdays at noon. Our Bible studies will also continue, but these will now be on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the evening
If someone is in need of prayer, please contact us. We are continuing to receive requests for prayer and we often get a good report afterwards. God is good!

It is our heart's desire to see revival - for many individuals to come to Christ, for many to be healed and for there to be healing of relationships and families throughout our community. Only God can do this and we pray for a mighty outpouring of his Holy Spirit.
